Can you scratch it? What happens when you drop it? PC World’s Eric Butterfield takes the iPhone through a grueling set of tests to check how the device handles abuse.[...] Thanks to herdie for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 2607 Diggs).
What other user say about this:
leftkidney: yea well try a blenderblendtech did it and it shreaded it right up
mrchin: I was just thinking will it blend. Funny
Great news about a durability. I felt sick when I saw him dropping it. Why? But iPhone held up. Great news!
gboone: I was waiting for the skydive. I want to know what will happen to my iphone when it falls to from the sky with gathering speed. I can only assume it’s thought process would be something like: “What’s happening? Who am I? Why am I here? What’s my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I? Okay okay, calm down calm down get a grip now. Ooh, this is an interesting sensation. What is it? Its a sort of tingling in my… well I suppose I better start finding names for things. Lets call it a… tail! Yeah! Tail! And hey, what’s this roaring sound, whooshing past what I’m suddenly gonna call my head? Wind! Is that a good name? It’ll do. Yeah, this is really exciting. I’m dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the wind? There’s an awful lot of that now isn’t it? And what’s this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ‘Ow’, ‘Ownge’, ‘Round’, ‘Ground’! That’s it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it’ll be friends with me? Hello Ground!” I kind of what to know what happens. Do the iphone and the ground become friends
Nabukadnezar: i can’t see the vid
bolson7117: http://revision3.com/systm/cracked
jptolife: That was very impressive, takes a little of the worry i had of scratching mine.
finny06: How about the back? Is it silver like the iPod? That gets scratched by a slight breeze.
MajorMauser: Awesome Great Job PC World. wonder if they did these tests with any other phones out there?
fernB: How did it handle the blender test?
badapplestudio: Notice how it never fell directly on the screen. It’s supposedly made of optical grade glass. It would definitely crack if taking a direct hit. I wonder if those drops are premeditated to land a certain way or if the iPhone is counter-weighted a certain way to always land on the metal.
911cartoon: “to simulate having the phone in your pocket with keys” ha yeah cuz my pockets are the size of a friggin zip bag. man the framerate on this video gave me a headache.. why didnt they just put this shit on youtube or something. man that was terrible video quality.
JWADD: Will it blend?
kd1s: Ok - he was treating a little too gently. My Motorola cell phone has been banged against walls, hummed across rooms, even stepped on and still come out shinging. Let’s see his little iPhone match that.
UCbizerkeley: ive watched the drop on concrete scene 3 times
rglover: Impressive to say the least. I accidentally dropped my iPod Nano into a cupholder and the damn thing got scratched.
