500,000 iPhones Sold This Weekend
With one of the most anticipated product launches of the year over, how did the iPhone do ?According to analyst, Blackfriars, which has been monitoring stores, claimed that sales should top 500,000 for the first weekend.[...] Thanks to rolsuk for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 2424 Diggs).
What other user say about this:
pidge: I wonder how many will be the actual net amount after idiots realize no one wants to pay $700-$1000 on Craigslist for an iPhone and decide to return it back to Apple. My local Craigslist has tons of iPhones listed for sale.
chrismag1979: 500,000 bricks! Thats a world record! I thought AppleTV still stand at #1 bricks sold but 500,000! Thats alot!
matskolm: To what important question is the IPhone the answer?
selfdisplaced: 500,000 iPhones sold, 400,000 iPhones resold on eBay!
WarFreak131: 500,000 people bought the iPhone this weekend! 500,000 losers just wasted $600…
Mavtek: Ok what am I missing? The Iphone doesn’t have any kind of voice command, so having to fumble around with a touchscreen for a keyboard and number pad is a PITA. It’s on crappy Edge network. Its media capability might be wonderful, but who touches their devices to launch media? I’ve been using MS voice command for years now on my PDA’s and now my PPC 6700, I simply say “play” then either artist, genre, or song title, if I want to play a video I just say play video - “title”. This is on a phone that’s over a year old. If I want to call someone from my contacts I just say call “Joe on mobile”, if I don’t have the number in my contacts I just say “dial” and then 555-5555 or whatever and it dials. I have Opera on my phone and with Sprints 3G I surf the web quite well actually, not to mention the fact that I can access all of my media via Orb on my phone, including live television, something else the Iphone doesn’t support. I can also remote control my PC through logmein.com, something the Iphone can’t do. My phone is actually supported now by our 3rd party corporate email servers from Good Software, it’s also supported natively by MS Exchange 2003 and higher. I can use a touchscreen keyboard or I have one that flips out from the back of the device which to me is very convenient if you actually need to respond to an email, which I do all the time I might ad. My phone also came with a pocket version of MS office which can also be used via voice command, along with a rudimentary camera. All applications can actually be started by simply saying “start”, “application”.
I only have 2 guesses as to why someone would by an Iphone. 1 they truly have no clue how much better the existing competition is now, (I mean overall networks with already competitive phones), or 2 they are just a bunch of Mac Zealots who just want the latest device from their God Steve Jobs.
Oh and another thing, can I get all my favorite Super Nintendo games on the Iphone?
JDoorjam: Digg (or at least read) the blog’s source, not the blog: http://blackfriarsinc.com/blog/index.html
SharkMan: so when did AT&T start not being the spawn of satan?
heavystone: Well lets just wait 1 week when all the complaints start storming in…..
bitchslapper: I wouldn’t be exaggerating when I say iPhone has one of the most user friendly interfaces ever for a phone. I have taken HCI courses in school and I know what I am talking about. I am not a mac fan boy but this really is an amazing product. I know how I convinced myself to squeeze that money out but I have absolutely no regrets. I love this phone.
chrismgtis: A. I could care less.
B. The iPhone is nothing but a pretty device with a few “nifty” GUI features and nothing revolutionary and in no sense whatsoever worth the price tag.
C. I’ll stick with my piece of shit Nokia E62, even though it locks up on occasion and has that damned record button on the side that gets pressed on accident every 5 minutes.
nateking1: Wow, half a million, damn

onebadmutha: Forget $275m for the hardware, figure at least 800m for the monthlies to AT&T.. lowest plan is 60, and they shoot up to 120 real quick… 2 year lock in, or $200 pay off? That’s almost a billion in A WEEKEND. Remind me to start a cell carrier…
mindXuf: What I dont understand is how people were hating like crazy on sony for PS3 having so many useless features, and not sticking to the core gaming (which sucks). Now Apple comes out with the iPhone which has so many useless and subpar features (maps but no gps, touchscreen, video player, mp3 but no ringtone, shitty camera ), but sucks a cell phone (edge, no 3rd party apps, nonremovable battery), yet people still defend it? I’m not trying to piss anyone off, but what is good about this phone? People say the interface, but it isnt really better than others, its just different. If I get dugg down, it will be just because noone has an answer for me….
