TOP 5 Reasons Why Leopard’s UI Sucks

npulidoThe current beta build of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, released to developers at WWDC ‚’07, is not as polished as what people have come to expect of Apple’s design team - users are still left with at best several disagreeable changes, and at worst a hideous hodgepodge of HIG contradictions.[...] Thanks to npulido for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1312 Diggs).

What other user say about this:

GotMex: “Top 5 reasons I’ll be sticking with Tiger and not understanding the new changes to the UI”

wgauvin: I don’t think anything mentioned in the article is a real problem with the UI, I do have a problem with Apple deciding now to use very small red and green buttons to show a status. They did it with the iPhone availability and a ADC member at work showed me some of Leopard and he pointed it out. Why does this matter? Like 1 in 10 males, I’m colour blind especially with red and green. Generally I don’t have a problem if something is big or I know it should be red or green, but small round gel like buttons are a problem.

blacklilyninja: transparency sliders on EVERY window and upper menu bar

EamonnMurphy: I don’t think there is anything wrong with the drop shadows, they are spot on. Dock dots are not good though, they need to be reverted to the black triangles. The menu bar, should have he choice to turn it on and off. I quite like the new system icons, very friendly and recycled.

Electrox3d: Its like IKEA designed the UI.

clyde2801: The actual title is 5 leopard ui gripes, not that the UI “sucks”. Buried as inaccurate.

VicTheKnife: It’s really not that different than Tiger- and I am very content with Tiger.

britoca: amen, apple’s OS usability is crap compared to windows. Try multitasking with 20+ windows in a mac and let’s see how much fun u can have…

MindlessSoul: You forgot one, the scroll bars are all wrong.

They should look like this everywhere: http://www.thinkmac.co.uk/blog/images/itunes7scrollbar.jpg
not like this: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/art/wn_scrollbar.gif

ChiefTypist: Of course it’s a beta. That’s why I’m writing bug reports about these new features:

http://furbo.org/2007/07/03/the-hig-still-matters-even-with-special-effects/

You should do the same if you don’t like something…

wtf00: I knew it.. when I saw title is going to be war of the macfanboy defending there UI.. I always dislike mac GUI anyways.. :)

flipmeat: The new Dock looks exactly like the toolbars in Bryce from 8-9 years ago. I would not call borrowing the graphic excesses of the now defunct HSC/MetaCreations good design. Bryce 5.5 is a free download for Mac/Win, take a look and be amazed. FTFF!

pellejo: could i digg it multiple times? damn that looks pretty horrible

pirloui: I have used Leopard for a couple of hours, and find most the changes gadgety… Although I’m close to fanboyism in general, this update’s looks don’t convince me in the positive sense…

dackerman: Only gripe is the transparent menu bar, but it’s not even that. When you select something on the menu bar, the dropdowns AREN’T transparent, which makes no sense. Why would they have a solid white dropdown from a transparent menu bar? If they fixed that it would be gravy.
