On July 20th, ENERGY STAR’s new specifications for computers went into effect. Apple currently does not have one computer that meets the new requirements.[...] Thanks to raoultg for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1516 Diggs).
What other user say about this:
dragonopolis: So what, even if it was true, its not like Apple or other Computer Companies have to recall all their computers to meet specs. Basically, if any Computer Manufacturer were to build Computers after the deadline they must meet those specs. It is also not unusual for some companies to jump the gun in order to appeal to certain groups or as a advertising gimmick to sell more computers than their competitors. Apple will come out with a compliant computers when they are good and ready. If that is before the date - Fine. If it is after the date, as long as it is compliant, well thats fine too.
LinuxGalore: Standards do not “just magically appear” one day, you are pre warned “years if not months before hand”, so if your products do not meet the new standards it tells me your company really needs to get its act together.
Trat: Could care less…
digitul: “who cares, they’re stil pretty!” - mac owners
nar3024: Hell - even the pizza oven at work is energystar certified
kuwan: Who gives a fcuking rat’s ass!
Neuz89: having an energy star sticker on my computer isn’t exactly a top priority for me when considering what im going to buy
shockoj7: who gives a FUCK!
tjoneil: It’s great that people want better energy standards, but according to this link http://www.absak.com/design/powercon.html computers are among the least power hungry devices we use in our homes. Basic lighting uses more electricity than computers do. Why should people care that their desktop computer uses 80-150 W/hr, when dishwashers use 1200-1500 W/hr, coffee makers use 800 W/hr, and incandescent light bulbs use 40-100 W/hr each?
Subterfug: “Use of energy efficient power supply. Desktops must use power supplies that are 80% efficient”
Apple might have lost their Energy Star certification, but so did so many other Desktop PCs. 80% efficiency is not exactly widespread just yet.
chrismag1979: Geez, thought Apple is going green by putting OLED backlit on their Macbook but now their going back to polluting.
All of my device from TV, to a computer has Energy Star Certification and Apple going back to the 80’s where energy savings doesn’t give a damn by tech company.Bet Steve laughing out loud at people who bought Prius than a same-priced V6 car.
LimeParrot: Apple computers are for condescending bimbos anyway. And those people are the most polluting on this earth. Not like they’re gonna care…
My favourite Bash quote:
“Not even viruses run on Mac!”
ibulb: Well, the document does not say that they considered Apple and Apple did not meet any requirements.
They simply considered only PC manufacturers and ignored Macs in the evaluation. In this case, when a company’s name is not there in the list, they should explicitly mention that none of their products were evaluated.
Orlong: Damn environmentalists
TheRealToma: Could this be the end of Apple? Only time will tell. /sarcasm
