OS X Leopard Build 9a499 Screenshot Gallery 2 (30+ New Images)

Mail will automatically set up POP and SMTP settings for all the popular email providers.”[...] Thanks to Simonage for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 18Diggs).

What other users say about this:

pinchies: I dislike the back/forward buttons throughout leopard, the glassy one’s in tiger (and UNI) are much nicer, as they distinguish the look and prevent it from becoming boring, which leopard’s look is bordering on.

colindunn: The more I see it the more I like it. But I have a few small complaints…

1. I am not feeling those glowing blue dots to signify the open applications.
2. I was always a fan of the top corners being rounded, where they at?
3. I think the transparent menu bar could be slightly more opaque. It is only aesthetically pleasing when the app isnt covering the whole screen. Then it’s just is distracting.

sruffelman: It’s really coming together.

Eight Financial Reasons You Should Use Mac OS

August 1, 2007

webtechgeekNow more than ever before, the Mac OS is the most cost effective operating system of all.[...] Thanks to webtechgeek for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1022Diggs).

What other users say about this:

wenwon: Funny. I’m reading all the comments for this story. Would you believe me if I told you the majority of the pro PC guys sound like guys that belong on a shipping dock?

wenwon: My company has four people all using Macs. We’re easily two to three times more productive than a PC environment. No viruses, no spyware; (blah blah blah blah) just a pure enjoyable work experience. Oh by the way, we spend about 20% of what a PC equipped office does on IT support.

PolkinhajIsGod: I never understood what someone gains by taking a few hours out of their day to glorify a goddamn operating system. They honestly believe that their opinion matters to someone considering buying a mac.

manbearpigm16: This article is crap, even though I’m someone who is enjoying my Macbook. I decided on the Macbook because for the specs it was cheaper than a 1420 from Dell and it didn’t look like shit and has a nice screen.

RenZ87: Don’t want sound like a broken record but to those who say that macs are cheaper when compared to a PC of
equivalent speculations.
Can somebody find me the equivalent of these?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-Desktop-PC-A-6130-N/sem/rpsm/oid/184445/catOid/-12962/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

When somebody directs me to one then I’ll seriously consider getting a mac.

wooptoo: “Beyond that, however, Schwartau contends that OS X’s Unix kernel makes Macs practically impervious to malware at the OS level.”

O_o fsck me sideways. This is FUD.

Mac+OSX are cheaper than other computers/OSes because you have to invest less time in mantaining them/configuring them, but that’s about it.
This whole article is bullshit.

cave: You know an argument that keeps repeating on the console wars, and that I don’t see enough in the OS wars? “It’s not the hardware, it’s the games (apps), stupid!”. Just pick a platform that has the software you want and be done with it. If you are a hardcore coder, you’ll probbaly feel more at home with Linux, if you are an artist/designer you should get a Mac, and if you are a gamer, get Windows. If you are neither of these, congrats, you can pick any OS you want. And you should probably want Linux because it’s free. It’s the year 2007, people. Things at this point have evolved to the point that there’s a decent app for any platform to do basic computer stuff (web, e-mail, office) it’s only when you get into the more professional level software that you start to see differences in OS support.

On a side note, I’ve always thought that Macs made more sense in the laptop form factor. It’s not like you can build your own PC laptop for cheap anyways. Plus the OS and hardware integration really helps battery life in comparison to most of their PC counterparts, and this the most important thing for me in a portable. Macs on the desktop however are not such a hot deal IMO, but if you got the money to splurge, they do make your desk look a lot nicer :)

whiteyMcBrown: I’m a huge mac fan, but I could certainly get a cheaper PC. If you like to edit home movies, create songs, do podcasts, manage photos… then the included Apple software could be extremely valuable to you; It’s considered by many to be among the best available consumer/pro-sumer software. As always, there’s give and take.. Macs could use an address bar, in the Finder..PCs could use smart folders and labels in Windows Explorer. Linux based OSs could do with a little more polish. I wish these mac guys would shut up, sometimes.. I don’t want them on my team. I prefer the mac, but I don’t align myself with jerks like Scott Bourne and other Apple zealots. If Apple went away, I wouldn’t kill myself.. I’d use Windows and be pretty content doing so (I already do, at work). The choice is there, though.. and I can afford a little more for my computer.. it’s worth it, to me.

zdiggler: May be if we all stop hanging out on digg be more productive.

catalytica: Safarie crashes when I go to this web page on mac os, go figure

vwgtiturbo: You know, I am a Mac fan, but morons like this really ruin the image of a NORMAL Mac user/fan (in much the same way that an overzealous Ubuntu fan repulses the Suse/Slackware/Fedora, etc. crowd.). HOWEVER, some of the comments spewed by the Win faithful are NO BETTER than the idiocracy put forth by the idiot fanatical Mac people. Granted, Mac-addicts can be irritating idiots, but for a Windows user to see that idiocy, then say that ALL Mac users are elitist bitches… well, hate begat hate…

aristotle0dude: To paraphrase Bill Clinton, “It’s the software stupid”. It is irrelevant that PC hardware is cheaper or more upgradable in the context of TCO in a corporate environment. The majority of support costs in IT involve software problems with windows and windows software. If a company removes windows out of the equation on individual workstations and supplements OS X software offerings with Citrix to run legacy windows software, support costs would be greatly reduced. I suppose you could do the same with linux but in that case you would end up relying on citrix for the majority of your software needs.

Doomhammer: You know, Mac fanboys, Linux fanboys, and Windows fanboys all need to STFU! I don’t really like Macs (mostly because of the price tag on a new machine) and I don’t really like Windows, but I like the fact that there are options available! Competition is what keeps companies trying to out-do the other companies, which in the end just makes a better product for the consumer.

That’s Microsoft’s problem, they have no reason to innovate or do anything well in their OS, because they already own a HUGE chunk of the market. They don’t really have any big competition.

LANjackal: Who cares? I find the Mac OS’ GUI unusable. Buried

robwilkens: “Mac OS Cost Effective” == yes, it’s a free (as in beer, not freedom) OS — they give it away with every mac you buy nowadays, the problem is the Mac hardware is _not_ cost effective. I’m fairly certain that maintaining macs (replacing faulty hardware) isn’t very cost effective either.

Apple Patent reveals Spoken Text Messages (for iPhone + iPhone nano?)

August 1, 2007

iPhone signals “the beginning of the end” for the mobile Web as we know it

August 1, 2007

CLIFFosakaJAPANThe report finds the iPhone’s Safari web browsing experience is heads and shoulders above that of competing devices which are only able to deliver “stripped-down sites crammed onto the small screens of devices meant for phoning, not browsing”.[...] Thanks to CLIFFosakaJAPAN for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 23Diggs).

What other users say about this:

jstohler: Even if mobile browsers can handle it, most U.S. companies (like mine) will still force their users onto stripped-down mobi sites rather than “shock” them with something new.

meakin: Apple products are always cool and cutting edge and this is no surprise.

iPhone Reverse Engineering Opens New Door to Total Unlock

August 1, 2007

unit101The iPhone Dev Team keeps closing up on their total unlocking target: they just announced that they have reverse-engineered the software which controls the iPhone’s radio communications. The team has now a new way to search for the key to make the JesusPhone work with other carriers…[...] Thanks to unit101 for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 779Diggs).

What other users say about this:

oliviacond: buried for calling iphone as jesusphone

Drizzit: I thought that European cellular companies could not lock phones to their network. How did Apple manage to get around this?

insomniac8400: What is the point in this? An iphone update can easily undo anything these guys accomplish and you could be locked out of services if you don’t upgrade. But despite that don’t carries have to by law offer to unlock a phone if asked?

asaturn: OSx86 anyone? Apple probably knows and obviously isn’t doing much to stop it… they like the underground attraction, it creates buzz. To them, 100 geeks hacking their iPhones to work on T-Mobile means nothing to them except that 100 geeks love their expensive products enough to risk having a useless piece of $600 electronics in a pretty box.

seneyr: Isn’t this just a DMCA violation waiting to happen?

leexy: I really don’t get the hype. With the Neo 1973 already shipping and the more powerful wifi-capable upgrade weeks away, any geek worth his salt is surely little concerned by a 600 bucks phone that comes in with a 2-year contrat.

digitallysick: im just waiting for them to act like ms and ban you from useing the phone at all if you hack it, that will be the day i drop apple products if they do.

twenty3inhouse: Wouldn’t it be funny if the phone melted when you opened the case – voiding the warranty of course. That would make hacking it much harder.

praveenmarkandu: Dugg for the StarWars EpisodeVI Picture

insomniac8400: jesusPhone? That phone needs to make like Jesus and die.

dinkola: This is what I see happening … Apple needs to keep AT&T happy and everyone locked into using AT&T. Especially with Apple looking for carriers around the world, since it would make it harder for then if it was announced that users could change it to use any carrier. Apple knows these unlocking projects are going on, and Im sure they are monitoring them. We can also speculate that Apple may have some great future updates, which mean people having to update their phone. So if I where them, I would be holding onto these updates in an attempt to fight back at any iPhone hacks. As soon as someone hacks the iPhone, patch it and release an update with a new feature. Most people will want that new feature, forcing them to update and the hack will become useless again. Its pretty much what Sony/Microsoft did with their consoles.

Tobark: If it can work with Verizon Ill be buying the two I returned. ATnT SUCKED in my area.

santz: Keep it up! your work in unlocking the iphone is appreciated by many here!

shorty9: Best thing to do with the iPhone is take it apart
http://www.hooqs.com/taking-apart-the-iphone/17021,20369
