Apple is not dealing with $2000 that has gone “missing”[...] Thanks to macman64 for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1701Diggs).
What other users say about this:
postalblowfish7: it’s a fake!
chheber: This must be fake.
Doesn’t an _American_ 22 year old collage student know English?
He constantly type “I” with lower case. He does this even though he starts sentences (mostly) with a capital letter.
MauiMac: $1,957.45 does not = $2,000.
This person needs to go back to grade school…
gracias: SCAMMER / TROLL: Look at some of his other posts on macrumors late last year, (poolin1243, same location)
“Ive gone through 3 macbooks in the 4-5 WEEKS since i bought the original one. Every Time it was something else! A clicking screen when opening and closing, a bad left speaker, Discoloration of the BLACK casing. NOWW i need a FOURTH macbook, because this 3rd one is having a static (white noise like a TV) all the time! Its rediculous how many problems im having. What to do???? What to do????? What numbers can i call to bitch and moan about this, and get some vindication etc from apple?????? What to do?”

What a liar.
AcesFullMoon: I’m completely amazed at the complete lack of common sense displayed by most of the people responding to this story. Before posting I recommend reading his blog, then looking at the clarifying comments made on here since then. When you’re lazy and you just post a response without gathering all the information, you look very stupid. Obviously, poolin1243 exaggerated the direness of his situation, but in his situation, who wouldn’t?? Actually, it’s not “obvious” because it is plausible that his class, a graphics design class for those of not keeping up, would require a Mac laptop. However, as someone just pointed out, he stated that he needs to buy a Mac Pro, so unless he made a typo, he needs to purchase a new desktop computer, which doesn’t make alot sense. So, I agree that parts of the story don’t make perfect sense.
However, people looking to punch holes in it at every turn need to think their arguments through a bit more. He doesn’t have a receipt because his parents weren’t really thinking and didn’t keep it; I would personally be shocked if parents could put their hands on a receipt for anything they’ve ever purchased. Not real bright, but not atall uncommon. For people asking how he already has CS3, he stated he got it from an internship. I think it likely he already has a computer, but needs/wants a new one. It is also conceivable that he simply has the software on CD and no computer to run it. If he got CS3 from his internship, how is that far-fetched? As far as needing to turn the matter over to police…are you serious?? I don’t know how on the ball your local police are, but I don’t see the police from my hometown getting to the bottom of something like this. Obviously, his strategy of posting his story on Digg has been highly successful; if I were in this guy’s situation, I don’t think I’d be too worried about getting to the bottom of what happened. I would simply want my f’ing money so I could buy the computer. Best way for him to get his money is to get Apple’s attention. How to get the attention of a computer company?? I dunno–use a computer maybe?? Or the internet?? Seriously, I’m sure Apple has a team of top lawyers to get their back. I don’t think they really need the support of the Mac community on Digg.com.
tubeblender: thought he was 25 not 22 years old
tubeblender: Did anyone bother to Google this idiot? (mainomega)
Sunbun: This happened to me at WalMart a year and a half ago.
I received a certain bag of choice crap from this one website. It contained a six-pack of calendars, in retail condition, wrapped, with a WalMart barcode.
Like any other person who has their own share of calendars, I went to go return it. They gave me around $80 in store credit.
I go home, check the gift card balance, and find it to be $0. Turned out someone wrote down the card number and, thinking I stole the calendars, zeroed the balance of the card. I drove back to WalMart and, after a two hour wait, got back the amount in cash.
So yes, if they think you stole something, they will probably screw you over like this. It’s not a rare occurrence.
michaelschmitt: “why did i get the gift card in Chicago and go up to Wisconsin (milwaukee)
well my Girlfriend (who is wonderfully supportive of this fight) lives in chicago, and i simply was there for the weekend. So i took it with me figuring i could just take care of it if we ended up going to the mall or i did or something. So monday rolls around, and i drove back up to milwaukee. I went to the local apple store, and tried to use the gift card. Plain and simple.”
Okay, I must be confused. I thought you said “i was just going to return the cs3, get a gift card, and get a mac pro (which they didnt have any refurbs in the store at the price point so i was going to wait and get it in milwaukee)”
f8tbrautmehere: “On my other laptops I close the screen all the time while they are doing stuff so the screen lasts longer (maybe just in my head) and better battery life. But since we got the 17″ MBP I noticed this put them to sleep so now i just turn off the lcd using the brightness button and close the lid leaving about an inch open so it doesn’t go to sleep and doesn’t over heat.”
Just Google this douche. It was an entertaining few minutes of my time.
michaelschmitt: poolin1243 aka macman64, why two digg accounts?
“i got my cs3 from my internship.”
Cool. You already had a copy of CS3.
“I am a 22 year old college student who now does not have the proper computer, or the money to buy a new computer for my classes.”
That sucks. At least you already had a copy of CS3. Too bad your parents knew that you needed a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 3 – Design Premium, but they didn’t know you already had a copy. How did they know that you needed this particular software without knowing that you also needed a computer to run it on?
“i was just going to return the cs3, get a gift card, and get a mac pro (which they didn’t have any refurbs in the store at the price point so i was going to wait and get it in milwaukee)”
Okay, so you wanted to buy a refurbished Mac Pro workstation. No laptop required for use in class then. You were just required to buy a Mac.
“and for those who havent been in competitive college environments in 25 years…give it a try…then u will understand how easy it is for a class to be dropped based on requirements…”
Yeah, prerequisites are a bitch. If they didn’t require you to have a laptop for use IN class, however, how would they ever know whether or not you owned a Mac, and why would they care, as long as you had access to a Mac?
“(i just convinced my mom to buy a white macbook for her business
“
Good. I was hoping you knew the difference between a Mac Pro (which you wanted to buy refurbished) and a MacBook Pro or MacBook. Your school just wanted you to have a Mac, but it didn’t have to be a laptop. So why would they drop you from class if you didn’t need a laptop? Were the instructors opposed to the use of their own campus computer labs?
“we students do have problems getting in labs, its hard when theirs 10 computers and 20 people trying to use them!”
Oh. So they would let you use the labs, but the labs were too crowded. I can see why that would make you drop classes. I’m sure all the other students waiting for computers were about to drop classes, too. Most big campuses have several computer labs, however, and they are not too crowded late at night, except when mid-terms or finals approach.
“and who are all you people to be the judge and judgement and know all about the requirements of my school’s program.”
You did submit this to Digg, did you not? macman64 joined Digg in August 2007 just to submit this story. Are you not poolin1243 and macman64? You invite judgment any time you call attention to yourself. I mean, don’t you see the little thumbs down / thumbs up icons all over this site? Judgments all over the place.
I hope you get what you deserve, whether it’s a $2000 refund, or . . . something else.
postalblowfish7: what a whiney blogger. don’t like what people have to say about you and your parents? don’t post stories about you and your parents on the internet. “this is the last blog i’m ever going to post” – lol whatever.
nads: Bloody hell, what is wrong with some of you lot? WTF concern is it to you that he believes he needs a computer or not? it’s none of your business.
Seaton… LMAO at you.
Green Flag #1 – He produces a receipt showing the transaction.
Green Flag #2 – His PARENTS bought the gift, not everybody is a warez whore or price savvy to know where to buy PC software at really cheap prices.
Green Flag #3 – He was given a GIFT, when was the last time someone told you what gift you were going to be given, before you got it? Your life would be very boring if that was the case.
Green Flag #4 – Why would you believe it to be a police issue straight away? Surely the police have more serious criminal work to be getting on with? Obviously it then did get very serious and the police were informed.
Green Flag #5 – Would you go to all this trouble for the possibilty Apple MAY give you a gift? If so, that’s a lot of trouble to produce a fake ticket, luckily find out a gift card to be yours be sued many miles away AND public announce your Apple case number for many many apple employees to check. I don’t know where the whole poor student thing came from but yes he must be middle-class for his parents to afford such gifts, lucky him. Move on. The story is that Apple may once again try and deny accountability for a problem on their end.

moracity: Story is BS:
1) If he already has CS3, how can he not have a computer?
2) No one gives someone a $2000 gift without a receipt.
3) How would he get store credit if he can’t even show that the software was purchased from Apple. You can get CS3 from anywhere.
4) If he wanted a MacBook, why didn’t he just get one instead of a gift card?
Nothing in his story makes sense. I don’t believe for a second that he was given a 2000 gift card without a receipt for the software.
