Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

August 9, 2007

Z_ManReports we’re getting in the mail say that some Gmail users have seen their storage bumped to over 9GB today – 9030MB, to be exact. If not a glitch (and why would it be?), it means Google is playing catch-up with Yahoo, which now provides unlimited storage. With no other info, we can only assume the accounts are currently being selected at random.[...] Thanks to Z_Man for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

mozmoz: This is a good thing but the fact still remains – At the end of the end do you actually use the 2 gigs given to you? :P

jlosh: mine has yet to change, but we will see :)

feelinduggdown: Has this happened to anyone? The other day I checked my gmail accounts all 4 of them. Don’t ask why I have 4. Anyway in one was 8,987 emails in my spam box. It was basically every spam I ever deleted since first getting the account. I know it was a glitch but it just shows that Google does not delete anything. Its always there somewhere. It was strange because it happened in another Gmail account about 2 months ago where I had 2,354 emails in a spam box that were all deleted since I first opened the account. Strange! It makes you wonder just what Google is doing with all that info. They can catch alot of spam so I wonder why they just can’t filter it out so I never see it…………….Weird!

ryanwarren: Unlimited +1

wazyfukk: wow world peace, free beer and christmas every friggin month – If I had to mangle through 9GB of Google Mail my world would be complete

ismhackett: .Mac= 10GB

hanis21: well its a pitty that we cant send large files. so unless your getting spammed fifty thousand times a day by constant viagra emails with super high resolution attachment pictures which consist of penis’ then i hardly think its going to be THAT useful (however if ur a really busy person i see the point).BUT…. 9 gigs. unless google allows people to send large files..like hypothetically allowing 700 mb files might be good *wink wink*
the question is will p2p die as a result of googles increase in space?

fbombs: Can someone tell me how to view all emails on one page in gmail? I hate navigating older..newer..

xst4t1kx: there is no such thing as unlimited.

Hero0fTime: don’t ever leave me, gmail

chrismag1979: Yeah right, how could you fill that huge 9000+MB when you’re limited to 15MB per upload? Spam yourself?

Jammerdelray: Thats great, I still be using both gmail and yahoo mail.

Toekneecooper: Nothings getting bigger than the size of my penis..

Zbrah: yer,I’ve got over 1200 emails in my gmail box and I’m at 2%(none of which is spam btw)…To whoever said they were at 98% of their inbox:bullshit.

TheToecutter: Jesus, doesn’t anyone delete their e-mails anymore?

Why apple may have left copy and paste out of the iPhone

August 9, 2007

thehigherlifeInteresting story about why apple makes some of the choices it makes, specifically why copy and paste seems omitted from the iPhone.[...] Thanks to thehigherlife for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1147Diggs).

What other users say about this:

hobophobe: That’s a specious argument. If you suppose for a second its true then they should have added text selection, then you “tap on the selected text and choose what to do with it from the menu”

And this business about “forcing users to do the right thing now, then enable them to do what they want” (with arrow keys) later is a crock. If everyone adopted the product when the feature was missing it might be partly believable, but apple isn’t sending out arrow-less keyboards to anyone who is a first time user today.

I don’t buy it.

yingjai: shut up about the iphone already

judybrune: I love my iphone! Love it! I think the post makes an interesting point. You all sound so hostile! But maybe this is what digg is like…I just joined

arctic: what I can’t understand is where people seem to think that this is even something to complain about.

it’s like me posting “why GMC might have left out flying in cars”/

Gabberwok: Come on, people. The answer is obvious and was on digg a little while ago. Apple filed a patent for an entire language of multitouch motions, including one for copy and one for paste. They will probably update the iPhone (hopefully soon) using these motions. Someone with more free time than me who knows what I’m talking about should find the link to that article….

mexretroshore: Would someone give some real examples of where they would use copy & paste on the iPhone? I’m inclined to think that it is not necessary.

juicebag: Maybe because they are lazy and they know they can just ride on the success of the iPod and make a phone missing key features, still having it sell millions.

zaffuh: Enough with the apple stories, seriously. I love how digg defecates its pants to apple, get over yourselves.

Vizin: The only time I feel lost without copy and paste is when I want to send a text message to multiple people. The iPhone doesn’t have a way to do that (like 99% of other cell phones do…), so without it I have to type out messages manually. It would be nice if they could add c&p, multiple recipient messaging, or (preferably) both.

jheftmann: this is a well written and thoughtful article. The author clearly has an understanding of the subtleties of Apple design that many Digg readers are too ignorant or impatient to bother with.

If you are debating between a Treo/Blackberry/piece-of-crap and the iPhone, you are probably meant to use a Treo. If you are someone who truly appreciates the iPhone design, there would be no debate between the two.

and please. Saying Apple cares about aesthetics over function is to not understand the fundamentals of good design. Go buy PCs. Just because you bought an iPod last week at Target doesn’t make you a Mac user.

/Mac user for 21 years.

apolloae: I think it might open the doors for…

FW: FW: RE: re: fw: re: HILARIUS MESAGE!

davideparker: What a horrible horrible hard-to-read website. Shame!

andyexmachina: I’ve had my iPhone since day 1 and while I have occasionally needed C/C/P it really hasn’t been that often. I do believe it’s something they need to add to the phone, but when you’re trying to get a product to market you simply have to make decisions about what makes the first release. In my mind, C/C/P is a nice-to-have that can be added later and won’t really hinder your experience that much.

Are people really finding themselves needing to do it that often? If so, what sort of functions do you find yourselves performing on a regular basis that requires it?

xeno439: What an unbelievable perversion of logic that post was. I think you have a good imagination, but reality eludes you. The fuck up was not due to the original mac at all. The fuck up is due to short-cutting the programing to get the product out faster.

jabberwolf: This has always been Apple’s strong and weak point. They are total control freaks that honestly DO NOT listen to what users want or need.
It’s kinda like fascism, its kinda clean and good at the beginning but the restrictions and propaganda eventually make it a nightmare!

Apple provides a product and tells users, this is what they want and somehow get the Macfans to be duped into thinking they take part in the creation. Thus if anything bad is said about Apple, you’re attacking macfans directly or are somehow a fan of another group.

That’s why Macfans are more of a cult then supporters.

No Replacements For Prepaid iPhone Users

August 9, 2007

CyberPhoenix“iPhone owners using prepaid SIM cards better take extra special care of their pocket trophies.”[...] Thanks to CyberPhoenix for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 488Diggs).

What other users say about this:

Iccanui: Inaccurate, buried.

Im have a pre-paid iphone plan and have swapped it out. I sent it to them for minor scuffing from a case and then dropped it a day before i sent it and they replaced it for free anyway. Same number, same chip.

Aleks: This story is such BS. My first iPhone had low volume problems and I took it into Apple the next day. They popped out the SIM and put it into my replacement iPhone.

Activation of course was required like when you restore your phone but that’s about it. No new prepaid plan was needed.

ravamp3: Fuck. As much as i wanted to like this phone……I’m starting to hate it.

superkendall: If he must keep the number, port it to something like a $30 Virgin Mobile phone, then port it back to AT&T. Or, even just try porting it from AT&T to AT&T…

gglynn07: Anyone ever wonder – Why is someone with prepaid buying an Iphone…with that kind of cash, pay the deposit and get the discount on the phone with a contract for a lot cheaper I’m sure…And people wonder why other countries hate us-joking…

blogosphear: I’m on my 4th iPhone after the other 3 had screen issues and have retained my orignal SIM card all the way through.

petard: Why not just activate it using a new prepaid SIM then put your old prepaid sim back in? You could then just transfer the balance and throw away the new sim.

fuzzmello: an iPhone, a MacBook Pro and probably at least a couple of iPods. no wonder the guy has credit problems.

Stopher: I don’t know why people bitch about the plan. It’s 60 bucks for unlimited data and more minutes than I ever use. I find it very reasonable especially since I don’t have a house phone anymore.

giraldus: Innacurate, but not totally. I did transfer an existing prepaid number/plan to an iPhone; it did take some work; initially, the AT&T representative did indeed say that it was absolutely impossible, that Apple was not allowing it, and that transferring numbers to iPhone couldn’t be done; I did call the FCC to ask if AT&T had any kind of exemption to the FCC WLNP rule, and they said nope. Called back AT&T, told them about my conversation with the FCC, the phone number was transferred immediately. What I am saying is that AT&T representative do not hesitate to lie outright if asked to do something they don’t know how to do, or which might take up too much of their precious time. Keep calling until you get what you want.

amused: This does not sound right. Even if he did need to set up an new account, can’t he just have the number ported to the new account like he had it ported to his current account?

JabbaDuhHut: Buried for misleading title. AT&T is not “denying” you a “replacement” phone. You just can’t use your old account if your iPhone is lost/stolen. You lose your number and have to open a new account – no one is preventing you from buying another phone.

jtb4: My phone is 50 bucks a month including tax for unlimited minutes and text messaging. (MetroPCS) For the cost of an iPhone I can talk all day everyday for a year. No contracts to sign, no credit check, no deposit, and the first month was free. Anything else is just a waste.

scabbers: Failure to “think different” enough?

justinjstark: Moral of the story: Don’t buy locked-down hardware (the iPhone) from crappy companies (AT&T).

At least with a motorola phone, I can change its settings myself and make it work with my alltel account. The only thing I have to do is call alltel and have them change the ESN number associated with the account.

Apple making touch screen Laptops?

August 9, 2007

jonnkidsApple is a further tinkering with its MultiTouch interface, now showing how it might be implemented on a Macbook Pro in a patent application that extends the idea from an earlier filing in 2004.[...] Thanks to jonnkids for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 27Diggs).

Evidence found that the iPhone will get games

August 9, 2007

dchartiDownload Squad digs into iTunes software code and discovers evidence that games are coming for the iPhone![...] Thanks to dcharti for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 604Diggs).

What other users say about this:

silverblue3in: This is all good. But what would really take the cake is a new game which takes advantage of the touch screen and the motion sensor (whatever it is called). Now is the time for someone to get creative with gameplay!

lordmike: There will be games… just like there are games for the iPod.. all 5 of them… you’ll get to play pac man and that’s about it and you’ll like it!!!

Love,

Steve Jobs

spooniep: Here ya go…
http://www.digg.com/apple/Nintendo_Game_Runs_on_iPhones_WITHOUT_a_Hack

zezerik: Yeah, Apple has always done so well in the gaming industry. I play my Apple Pippen all the time! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee It’s masturbation and Pippen night!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! I’m a Mac user! Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

PoopStick: lol its a Mac… Sure games are coming

SuperMoses: BREAKING: Evidence found about the obvious!

emadsenus: Nice! Until then, take your iPhone to www.iRovr.com to meet others with the device.

Trainwrek: …and the chances of the games being good?

tnoy: How about that game where I don’t have to use AT&T?

frederoil: games on the iphone??? OMG!! What’s next? MP3s on an ipod???? DUGG!!!!

dummersack: World of Warcraft on the iPhone would be crazy, but i don’t think it could do that.

theforrester: Like DUH! Dude everybody knew that was coming!!

errorjustin: I know for a FACT that iPhone games are coming. I work in the mobile games industry and I know many people who are building commerical iPhone games right now. They have been for some time, in fact. If you wanna know who, look at the comapnies that have released iPod games already

boomchockalocka: I’m waiting for Apple to tell the world they are competing with XBox, Playstation, and Nintendo. Automagically downloading games to iTunes and wirelessly synching them to AppleTV and the iPhone. KABAMMM!!!! Do THAT Blackberry!

schoate09: There are strings for ROKR, AppleTV, and many other devices that games never went to, or were denied for. Buried as inaccurate.

David Elsewhere: Behind the iPod Dancer

August 9, 2007

1KrazyKoreanYou know all those ads, including the iPod one, that has a guy dancing like he’s made of rubber? It’s all the same dude: David Elsewhere. The nimble virtuoso has basically invented his own style of dancing, and it’s so unique that basically any time you see it in an ad, it’s him. Even if it doesn’t look like him, it’s his body[...] Thanks to 1KrazyKorean for providing this nice story on Digg (more than 1688Diggs).

What other users say about this:

redivider: I didn’t know he was Saddam Hussein’s son.

*jooloop*: Wow, I first read the title as “iPod Cancer” and thought, “yeh, it is growing like a tumor.” Then I read the discription, figured out my mistake, and am dissapointed. No digg.

ezion: if anyone wants a free copy of the complete Detours video let me know and I will gladly distribute it for FREE.

Codee: Come a hell of long way from YouTube.
Nice kid. Much success.

SmilingJess: dugg because it reminded me of my raver past, and also because of the Gene Kelly commercial.
That is badass!!

retop56: O YEA. THE GUY IN THE ORANGE AT THE KOLLABORATION video. omg man I show that video to ALL my friends it’s so awesome. I first saw it on eBaum’s World

thewoodman: Old news surely!? Clips of Elsewhere have been popular on YouTube for ages…

danconia: LOL come on guys as if it could have been anyone else. Liiiiiiiiiiiiquid. Too bad they didn’t show my favorite part of the kollaboration video, where he does the stop-motion imitation. I’d like to see any hoochie-mama try to keep up with this badass.

Wonder if he has to tone it down for his girlfriend when they hit the dancefloor…

GIFF3: I love this guy I have had his videos on my blog for a long time. it’s good to see him get some recognition

Digg413: Man – That is SO COOL! Good for him! Doing what he loves, being different from everyone else, and now probably making a ton of money.

Sil369: He should star in the PC-Mac commericals. PC guy would just walk away, baffled by his dancing. :)

defect: Wow, i remember seeing the Kolaboration vid long ago and thinking that was awesome and i’ve seen the commercials from time to time but i never connected the dots. Nice to see that talent does pay off.

samsara1981: So who is making the movie? You know somebody will, assuming David is willing.

HaltingPoint: This style of dancing is one of the reasons I loved the rave scene. Obviously there were other types of dancing…popping, locking, liquid pop…this is kind of a blend of some of it + some robot…

Truly phenomenal dancers in the rave scene, sure beats any of the shit you’ll see at a club.

dose: If you like his dancing check out the Detours DVD. It has him with a couple other dancers, Kujo, Midas, and Rawbzilla.

New iMac Receives CNET Editors’ Choice Award
