scribebox: Torrent????????????????????????????????????????

panamajack: I’m surprised Apple doesn’t offer a podcast feed for all its product release keynotes …. they did it for the Macworld keynote, but not for other minor releases. QT streaming is great …. when it actually works. It certainly helps to just let the vid cache for a long time, but even that can result in stop/start playback.

tomchow: Where is the direct download link of the event anyway, let me know if you guys have any idea about it….

iXam: Here is the tour of the iPod in flash and not QT.
http://www.dejavurl.com/video/apple_ipodtouch_tour

ChickenFlu: how can u download from an apple stream? is it even possible?

hexydes: I’m not watching this until I can download it from somewhere.

DrawingTheSun: .Dupe

DrawingTheSun: This would be better on Youtube or something, Quicktime streaming video is really poor.

astrojith: I tried downloading using AVS player. But no luck. I’m now using QLite for any luck.

tomchow: Me too, quicktime sucks, are there any direct download links?

astrojith: Why cant I see the video. I clicked and clicked and clicked, but still no response. I just cant miss it.

iPod Hi-Fi dies a quiet death

September 5, 2007

OneManArmyThe iPod Hi-Fi has now been axed from the online store.[...] Thanks to OneManArmy for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

chanhuff: its back on there website

PANTONE285: Apple TV is next in line.

frequencydip: I was a huge fan of I, I use it as my stereo in my bed room. It has plenty of kick for small to medium rooms. I wish they tried introducing a updated and cheeper model first. I would likely would have bought another. I also used it allot for pick-nicks, beach parties and tail gating. There is no better portable / battery operated ipod dock out there…

brewno2k: I got mine a while ago, refurbished one — 100 € cheaper — I just got it because it had a nice discount. Besides using it with the iPod, I use it with my digital TV (using the laser entry) and also with my DVD player. My friends are always impressed by it’s quality. I love it and have no regrets of buying it. It is a great product.

buckeye77: I can’t believe people bought this.

crlake: They were charging WAY TOO MUCH money for “Just a simple speaker”. I don’t care how big it was. At $350 — I could have gotten 2 speakers and have change left over for a pizza party.

Try again Apple — but this time try $150, instead of $350.

Avaseal: Cough Cough…B&W Zeppelin. http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/

Idearat: If the TouchPod has the same idiotic: ” You can only watch movies if you turn the thing sideways” mode as the iPhone then a whole new batch of people will be annoyed when their slick docking speakers mean they have to lay on their sides to watch a video.

Even just listening to music on the iPhone you can only use coverflow in landscape more. This is going to make docking speakers less attractive, at least unless someone comes up with one that rotates 90 degrees.

mshanly: I submitted this story from TUAW over nine and a half hours ago. :(

nilsko: I have it. I love it.

MrViklund: No. It’s not dead. I have heard that Apple is preparing a new version so keep your eyes open.

toetagger: Not so quiet it doesn’t make it to the front page…..

BossKey: Well, the iPod Socks outlast yet another Apple Store product!
(Maybe it’s because iPod Socks have a 4-star average user rating, which I personally don’t get, but whatever…)

riddlebox: They will release it again in a 10 years. Just like they do with all of their products. Give it a different name and call it Cool.

5 Things We Love, 5 Things We Hate About the New iPod Lineup

September 5, 2007

akifbayramIt’s easy to say what we love about the new iPods—like Gizmodo commenters, they are each special in their own unique way. But there are some gnawing issues that we would like to bring up.[...] Thanks to akifbayram for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

aduzik: The iPod nano and iPod shuffle colors are ugly as all hell. What were they thinking?

etamura00: I want wireless sync of my podcasts. Is that available with the wireless on the touch?

tallguy240: Hell if they are anything like the last generation if you look at them funny they will get a scratch on them. The damn thing would get scratched just putting them in their scratch protectors. I hope they at least fixed that.

yodasama: Long live the “jPod”.

dookofearl: The fact that more iPod stories make the front page than top 10 lists?

MihaiM: What I think is really missing from the iPod Touch is the Mail App. That would make it a great Work/Play mobile device.

Nuak: Let’s wait until those talented hackers take care of the iPod touch. With no doubt we will see those missing iPhone apps in the iPod touch thanks to their work.

dmbohn: what about Nike+?

evelian: Everyone wanting their 160gb hard drives and 3.5″ touch screens must also want god-awful battery life.

blacklilyninja: iphone touch should have been called iFi and it should have a mic for voip ichat but im sure its a matter of time

bgramer1: Does anyone know when Apple’s doing their firmware updates for iPhones? I’ve been checking my iTunes and Software Updates but nothing new yet.

digitallysick: i cant wait to see the classic outsell the new flash based, people will realize its just a watered down iphone, and either get the iphone, or go classic

charlesray: Did anyone else notice that Apple did absolutely nothing new with this release? I mean, I understand if you have very little music and want a touch (and for some reason, not an iPhone), but to keep buying their products after this joke…that’s just bad for the market. Let’s be realistic and look for alternatives, at least wait until the Zune 2 is out and see if it doesn’t suck, since it’s 80GB and has a far larger screen.

jonathan95060: currently I have a nano and a cell phone. As soon as the iPhone is available for other carriers I’m getting one so I can reduce my gadget count by 1.

Anyone know when this is happening?

As for the various new features apple is focusing on (e.g. cover flow) I could not care less. What I want is more smarts on the iTunes side: gmail/flickr/delicious style tagging of songs. More sophisticated logic operations for smart play lists.

24imac: So, Zune 2, a half assed wifi and maybe a DRM store?

Sure the iPod looks cool, saves you from ATT if you dont want a phone, but that flash memory sucks.

How about changing the flash memory to something larger? 32gb, 64? size permitting upon ripping the insides out.

The White iPod Has Gone Extinct

September 5, 2007

BLONGOWe all saw it coming, but now it’s official, white iPods have become extinct. May we all bow our heads, and take a trip down memory lane.[...] Thanks to BLONGO for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

Twee: I think they wanted to give higher class status to the ethnic minorities of the iPod population.

eQUIV: Silver is the new white. Just look at the new imacs. It fits the theme.

insomniac8400: I hope the new ones come in poo brown.

radoo: Black = Hansel

LandOnFire: “And thanks to assholes like the one that submitted this story, 7 OUT OF THE 10 MOST POPULAR STORIES ON DIGG ARE ABOUT APPLE RIGHT NOW.

moosepimp06: And who the hell cares? Since when did Digg become Steve Jobs’s personal whore? Dont all you apple “fanboys” have your “fansites” to go read for absolutely retarted “updates” like this? rglover: Ooo, does this mean a silver macbook (not pro)?

(don’t say this doesn’t happen anymore, my 2 month old macbook is doing it)

dookofearl: what the fuck is up with all this apple shit making the front page today?

Wcain: ipod classic looks pretty white if u ask me.

digitallysick: how about a marble looking ipod, black and white, id buy it

iTunes Ringtone Editor Hands-On

September 5, 2007

1KrazyKoreanAfter a summer of waiting for ringtones for the iPhone, they’re finally here. And Apple delivers with a package that’s easy and convenient to use. iTunes lets you know which tracks you can turn into a ringtone by displaying a bell next to them. If you click the bell it brings up a graphic editor which is quick and responsive.[...] Thanks to 1KrazyKorean for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

inkhead: The only reason the ringtones cost 99cents, and that there are only 500,000 iTunes songs supporting it is because of the RIAA. They set it up (last year) so music sold online and then used as ringtones would not be part of fairuse. You think steve jobs wanted to come out on stage and only offer ringtones on a few songs? NO. It’s because the RIAA laid down the stupid law.

Mr. Jobs also was very nice to make a comment, that (when ringtones are activated) You can use pre-existing CDs you rip into itunes just not mp3s already existing because this would violate their agreement with the RIAA.

This is not Apple, this is the RIAA finding a way to make you pay for everything. Spread the word.

streak: Ridiculous fee.

Flashman: Save yourself 99 cents a pop: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/itoner/

Apple’s Official Video Walkthrough of the iPod Touch

September 5, 2007

1KrazyKoreanHere’s an abridged version of Apple’s official walkthrough of the new iPod touch, complete with new info on the Wifi iTunes Music store, the new interface, and a whole lot of over-the-top hand gesturing.[...] Thanks to 1KrazyKorean for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

tmcdigg: Someone needs to rewrite the firmware to exclude itunes features and put in open p2p file sharing applications such as open-nap, limewire, direct connect, and bittorrent. People really need to stop feeding the itunes media store. OR BETTER YET, buy an Archos 604- 705 series Portable Media Player, which doesn’t lock you into a company’s proprietary media store/drm features.

northernmunky: Some great puppeteers controlling his arms though…

PANTONE285: Why am I getting flashbacks of zelda II when I watch this?

pastrynak: Get a free Apple iPod Touch @ http://www.freeappleipodtouch.com/

Sticky_icky: I was just wondering…what color are his eyes?

m0dded: the iPod Touch has a lot of buddons you can press. buddons buddons buddons.

Menoats: Am I the only one thats disappointed that the WiFi doesn’t let me manage my Ipod library? I thought it would make more sense logically that I could update my Ipod’s music using WiFi without having to connect it then to log on to iTunes store. Or better yet stream music from my Ipod onto my computer, without it actually being connected. Whatever thats just me though.

xavierh: The question that I have is will they add the option to download podcasts / video casts and audiobooks…that will be interesting. You could then get updated podcasts anywhere

Listor: all I freaking want is radio, so I can listen to the TV’s at my gym while I work out since the tv’s are broadcasted that way. Is AM/FM to much to ask for in a several hundred dollar device?

cphuntington97: Why does he keep saying, “widescreen?”

The proportions of the display are 4:3. Sure, it’ll put the black bars in if you want, but the physical display is not widescreen.

Smills: I really got my hopes up with this iPod, but when they said 16Gb, that just killed it for me. 30Gb would be about the minimum I would be willing to buy it for. I like to bring files around in my media players and just one game ‘backup’ can be 8gb. Not to mention demos. I guess it is the Zen Vision for me…

RagnerD: The wi-fi isn’t that compelling. They need to add be adding more value if they expect people to purchase music from the iTMS.
For now if you want lyrics for your songs in iTunes you can get them with this plug-in. http://soundcrank.com.

Maasneotek: It seems pretty cool to me, This is what i wanted form the beginning (this product). However, you’ll notice there is no Email application for the Ipod Touch. just a ‘contacts’ list. It really doesnt make sense to me. Its a music player and a PDA with a internet access, BUT they specifically omitted the email capabilities. It seems like a gaping hole in the abilities of the device. On top of that is that this device runs neither Flash nor Java. Which means, the majority of WEB 2.0 sites out there will not really be run at their finest. The processor actually can run Java natively so its not a matter of processing power…..

ahawks: I’m glad this is on digg now, so I can comment on it. I saw the video on their website yesterday, and I just couldn’t get over the way that guy says “buttons”

jasonpoon: Apple should find a woman next time…maybe the “genius” from Apple Quick Tip of the Week.
123456 maybe a good password, no one will ever think someone actually uses it as the password.

Apple killing 4GB iPhone, $299 while supplies last

September 5, 2007

ichingIt’s true, Apple has no more use for the puny capacity of its 4GB iPhone, and is selling off the remaining stock at $299. Get ‘em while the getting’s good! Oh, and yeah, that means the Apple Store is finally back up,[...] Thanks to iching for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

craibuc: So, when does the 16 GB model arrive?

ussoldier: I was an early Apple adopter and bought a Mac SE for $3500. Can I trade it in for credit and get 10 iphones? The Apple dealer that sold it to me assured me it was more computer than anyone would ever need and would boost your personal productivity many fold. Oh, snap, look at those Apple salesmen suddenly become very downright rude and laugh at me. I asked him if he could help me buy some software for it, like some games for my kids to play, and he laughed even harder. Ok, so I’m not buying your iphone now, at any price. Screw you Apple.

WarFreak131: sure, if apple does it, fanboy bias will somehow make it okay for apple to do a bait and switch, but when sony does it with the ps3, everyone gets pissed and hates sony

coolharshal: After some time I realised that most of the features of iPod touch will be not that useful as its still a pain to use public WiFi hotspots. So, No web-browsing using Safari, No You-Tube videos and No online music downloads. And yes, there is no inbuilt Radio. But still I’ll wait for couple of months for a refurbished piece to appear on Apple site.
check out : http://way.to/ritw

partch: I called and threatened to cancel my AT&T service and they gave me a $100 credit.

I figure, if I bought a phone that they attached a two year contract to, you bet I’m complaining if that phone is discontinued & the price drops 33% not two months after I “sign up”. Anyway, if any of you guys try this I had to get right down to the cancellation pat before their rep offered up a Benjamin.

Cirrius: Honestly to me its still not worth a 2-year att contract.

dignon: Looks like all the anti-Apple bigots out there have run out of things to complain about.

tc2004txst: So if you bought the iPhone 4gig ONE MONTH AGO before the price drop you would have paid $500 for it. But if you bought a refurbished iPhone 4gig 10 days ago they would send you a check for $150 and you would have only spent $250 for it. Wow, a 50% price drop in a span of one month! I must say, that sucks for anyone who bought the iPhone early. And here I thought I had felt screwed after purchasing an iMac and a MacBook Pro both right before their respective upgrade dates, it still wasn’t a 50% price drop.

shinelikeitdoes: “Well most people who make the mistake of buying something overpriced would find the slightest reasons they can to justify it just to make themselves feel better.

A good example is how starving Graphic Design students spend extra money on Macs when they can just get a Windows computer for cheaper. More Graphic Designers are switching to Windows due to better 3D software & hardware support. Of course, those Mac users will say that they can just have two computers… a Mac for everything and a Windows for 3D stuff… but obviously we know that it would just be better to use Windows for everything in that situation. Some Mac users also dispute that 3D isn’t necessary for Graphic Design work yet the most famous Graphic Designers all use 3D objects for some of their work. That’s how some people act when someone tell them they made a bad decision. It’s not only for Macs, but for everything else in life like money, girlfriend, car, etc.”

this is horribly uninformed. im not sure what design related 3d you are thinking is not achievable on a mac?
maya is available, and most graphic designers using 3d will require something more along the lines of cinema 4d.
and we’ll still get it done in a more efficient environment.

Smiley09: Is this similar to the PS3 price drop of 07′ or does it not count this time because something something?

Smeed: nvm

Scott2: Got one! Hell yeah!

sleeknerve: This is the ipod touch not the iphone, there completely different, this one can not make calls

xshaisu: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/salespolicies.html#topic-15

dfaulting: I can’t wait for the software unlock to come out… I ordered a 4gb to use on my t-mobile account.

iPod classic first hands-on

September 5, 2007

1KrazyKoreanAnd to round out the day’s hardware hands-ons we wrapped our mitts around the new iPod classic. It’s thin, it’s solid, but it’s still hard drive based, which for our flash-loving selves is kind of a bummer. But if you need to carry around 80 (or 160 friggin gigs) of media, and you like to use iPods, this is the new king of the hill on storage.[...] Thanks to 1KrazyKorean for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

tmcdigg: Don’t worry your $349 160gb ipod classic will be $149 in about 65 days!! LOL
Seriously, with all that space HOW COULD YOU NOT DO A WIFI/P2P APPLICATIONS FEATURE?!?!?
Stupid… your going to sync all your data with a FRIGGEN WIRE?!
WTF!

stusb: i’m stoked. i love the ipod. love it. it’s one of the greatest inventions of this decade and i’m glad that the basic ipod form factor is still around. ipod lovers will lament the day the click wheel dies.

naonao: I’m more excited about this than the touch, replacing my 80GB with a 160.

counterpart9: so do you think there is any hardware limitations preventing this really nice looking user interface on the new iPod Classic to be put on an 5G iPod Video?

i know apple won’t do it, they want people to by new iPods, but it’d be very cool to just put the new UI on my iPod video.

emuprophet: I like how apple released two ipods that needed the other’s features. If I have 160gb of storage, I will need the touch’s faster browsing functions. If I have a touch, I wouldn’t need those enhanced browsing functions… unless I had 80gb+ of songs (16gb filled ipod classic can be quick to browse with a wheel) WTF apple?

ofenza: These metal iPods are ugly. What a step back…

And what’s with the divided screen?

coolharshal: After some time I realised that most of the features of iPod touch will be not that useful as its still a pain to use public WiFi hotspots. So, No web-browsing using Safari, No You-Tube videos and No online music downloads. And yes, there is no inbuilt Radio. But still I’ll wait for couple of months for a refurbished piece to appear on Apple site.
check out : http://way.to/ritw

wookiecookie88: Well that was an amazingly uninformative waste of my life.

NJPENSO: Yeah, I’ve seen that before, it’s called an ipod video.

No seriously, what’s the difference?

iJeffStudios: How about we digg the actual first story on digg that links to the same page :)

http://digg.com/apple/iPod_classic_first_hands_on

theprez: What I would like to know is if the new iPod Classic and iPhone Touch have video output capabilities. Outputting videos to a TV is a feature hardly anyone ever talks about, but it’s one of the main things I use my iPod for. Anybody know? How about the iPhone for that matter…?

cwoolf34: Good line up, but no 160 GB Touch? No way I am getting a classic, that is just another language for obsolete and being phased out.

rodrigo74: To me it looks like the designers spent all their time working on the Touch and left the junior team taking care of the rest of the iPod line..man, those things are fugly. The colors of the shuffle are horrible, the fat nano is weird as hell, and the classic looks weird. I’ll stick to my 5G and wait for the next generation, thanks.

LxRogue: “but it’s still hard drive based”

SO? Did they seriously expect 160GB of flash crammed into that? Is there even an advantage to having it entirely flash based?

iheartartoo: The sparkles make it look like a Bratz edition iPod or something.
