Survey: What do you think of the iPhone 1.1.1 Firmware?

September 28, 2007

enderiiiWhat do you think of the iPhone 1.1.1 Firmware breaking 3rd party applications?[...] Thanks to enderiii for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

timgollin: only one question: how many customers did Apple make happier by locking out third party apps ?

batmant: where’s the option “I have 1.1.1 AND like third party apps so as long as they’re useful and don’t negatively effect the stability of the phone”.

I’m enjoying top tapping the home button and locked screen controls much more than a lights out game and spring board which made the phone less stable.

prediction: t-mobile customers and other crusaders for unlocking digg this comment into the ground.

AppleMacGenius: I like my 3rd-Party Apps, I’m not mad at Apple. We all knew Apple was not going to support the 3rd-party Apps but we hacked it anyway and now your mad Apple broke it.. come on. I am staying at 1.0.2, but if there is a way then I will update it to 1.1.1. The only thing I want is IM, IRC, and Navizon…. I use this all for work. I think Apple should open it up for 3rd party. Let Apple put their seal of approve on it first but at least offer it. Every other software developer does it, Palm, Microsoft, Symbian and even motorola with their java applets.

mechamat: Is it possible Apple is holding back on opening up the iPhone until after Leopard is launched? It’s is a scaled down version of an operating system which hasn’t been released, to protect certain features I would do the same. I bet you will see an “Appouncement” shortly after Leopard’s October release, just in time for the holiday season.

Moviespo: The kitchen was closed…Here is a solution to going back in time to when you were using 1.0.2

http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Downgra …

Let’s do the time warp again…

I worked for me…I don’t need the music store but it was fun and fast but nothing beats the third party apps…

I am back…

Thanks!

ALT1MATE: I just updated to 1.1.1 and lost my AppTapp functions. I thought that the increased receiver and speakerphone volume would be a good trade-off but ITS NOT! The increase in volume is barely noticeable. I would say it is still comparable to a Treo 700. DO NOT UPGRADE!

sjalloul: For all of your who are experiencing the same, unsettling pain and want to make a statement let’s all come together and dish our phones in front of an Apple store! As a small start-up company geared toward delivering application via the iPhone, I am saddened to see this happening and affecting our optimism as a company and our potential user base. I personally feel the only way the Apple and Steve jobs would get the message if we all join together, and set a date to dish our phones at APPLE STORES! I know this might be too much, but it’s the only way then waiting for a workaround or for the future of this device/platform to evolve much to our desire. So please DIGG this UP for the same cause and let’s make a strong stance.

demesisx: I am boycotting apple’s products because of this. I was saving to edit my first feature film on a macbook pro, but now, I am going to go elsewhere with my business.

So much for positive PR stunts (Jobs giving money to those who bought the Newton years ago). I see his true colors….and they mainly consist of shades of green.

NeilAdmirari: Wrong market move. Availability of 3rd party apps is a major selling point for an average gadget user. I-don’t-care-what-as-long-it’s-Apple guys had already bought their iPhones. How do you sell next 10M iPhones, while outrunning the upcoming wave of iPhone clones? By letting everyone make iPhone ever better.
It’s PC with any software vs. Mac only with Mac-blessed software all over again, and we know how that one played out. Should have provided SDK and charged a minor license fee from developers. Happiness all around. It’s still not too late.
Customers knew what they were buying. However, Apple should be made aware that they fired yet another shot in their own foot.

echosierratwo: OORAH! thesledman. im with you brother. the bitching is driving me up the $#%^& wall. I had the hack installed but i wanted the iTunesMobile option so I bit the bullet and restored to 1.1.1. I can wait until nullriver updates the app. I will miss some of the very cool apps but i am not going to bitch and moan about it. Jesus, man up people.

iphoneguy2: Our users are feeling the pain! http://www.iphonecanada.net The firmware is hurting Canadians who REALLY want an iPhone

Ndric: Apple fans loves getting it up the arse.

And at the same time, paying a lot of $$$

handler: 1.1.1 will be hacked soon enough, don’t worry.
For all those bitching about this update, why did you update if you knew it would break 3rd party? I know I’m not updating.

londonista: It seems like history is repeating itself. The original Mac was a closed box — it was Gassee that persuaded Jobs to open it up for expansion as I recall. Jobs could pull the same stunt with the iPod as it was a mere appliance. iPhone on the other hand is a fully-fledged computer albeit in a small form factor — which is why so many people want third-party apps. What people probably don’t realise is that Jobs is petrified of security issues — his nighmare scenario would be a security vulnerability that compromises millions of iPhones that are connected to a wireless network. Now of course Java is supposed to run in a sandbox and hopefully prevent such issues — and is supported on a variety of mobile platforms, even old clunkers like Nokia’s S40. But Steve harbours antipathy towards Java — it certainly runs like a dog on my desktop Mac, so it clearly isn’t a priority for him. If Java isn’t an option, Jobs needs to offer the community some kind of SDK that allows people to install third-party apps and minimises vulnerabilities.

IPhone: Bring a Bricked iPhone to the Genius bar and Talk to the hand

September 28, 2007

goplasticLAWL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![...] Thanks to goplastic for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

LeeSoong: In Soviet Apple Retail – Steve Jobs Bricks YOU!

Snowrosered: Yea, this is so predictable. I can’t believe anyone would hack their phone and then download an update/ Not so savy, eh?
On the other hand, as cool as the iphone seems to be, I won’t buy any more apple equipment, having accumulated about $1000 of broken ipods that they refused to fix. Besides, I hate their f**ng arrogant ‘gurus’ and all the other sh**ty attitudes coming out of this corporate behemoth. Our friends in Washington look pretty PC by comparison now don’t they?

purdo: A question for the lawyers, what I’d like to know is this: if you buy an iPhone from the Apple store but don’t register with At&T and therefore don’t agree to their terms. Then unlock the phone to use it on any carrier do Apple have the “right” to re-lock the phone to only AT&T usage if I have never agreed to AT&T terms? and I know it violates the terms of the software, blah, blah, but do Apple have the RIGHT to dictate my service provider just because I bought the phone?

teaBagger: NO! APPLE R TEH HAXORS!

IchiroBoston: So if I do something to my iPhone outside of the normal operation Apple is still responsible for QC? stop whining… if you “hacked” it then it’s your own problem. If you don’t know how to fix it yourself then DON’T DO IT!

This is not an Apple only issue, if you hack anything made by anyone then take it back to them for repair what do you think will happen?

diggmediggyou: iPhone for me is look like a PDA phone, like the new look of Palm. Nothing so surprising me when i first played around with it.
Compare with the first impression with Nokia E90.

NewOntario: Who else besides me is continuing to thanks themselves for NOT buying an iPhone?

truegodofwar: buried. this video doesn’t play in gnash

genexyzration: Take note. Dont buy it. It breaks down within a month.

uroa: If Apple made cars they would be limited to 20mph.

RidiculousHat: Digg circa two months ago: Iphone is coming! I love apple!
Digg circa one month ago: Iphone price dropped! I hate apple!
Digg circa one month minus one day ago: Steve Jobs is giving us a coupon for the difference! I love apple!
Digg circa last week: Steve Jobs is fucking over our third party apps! I hate apple!

DeFex: OMG you bought an IKEA table and used candle holders and cutlery that were not from IKEA. what were you thinking. sorry your table warranty is VOID!

largobargo: Fuck apple.

themoosejuice: SMALL CLAIMS COURT

Watch how fast apple responds when you pay $20 to bring em to small claims court for $399. Just go to your local court and pick up the paperwork. Apple sold you a defective phone and refuses to fix it.

Another note: Imagine if Apple had the same policy on their macs? Sorry, you installed firefox. Your warranty is void. Whaaaaaa?

teaBagger: APPLE – pwnage of the fan boi since 1976

100+ iPhone Features I Want

September 28, 2007

plasticmindAs wonderful as Apple’s iPhone is, it has a lot of room for improvement.[...] Thanks to plasticmind for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

poly915: just add a task list (iCal to-do) and I’d buy one

Hidama: Skype should definitely be added to the iPhone.

duyleq: Apple will give back $100 for price down ^_^

joeycerone: I’d pay $100 for a firmware update with all of these features.

MyNameIsJoe: My number 1. A crash proof version of Safari.

Ireland: That’s the shit I’m talking about.

msippey: Hey, Apple — here’s your iPhone roadmap.

iPhone update: facts and fiction

September 28, 2007

lisaphamIf you haven’t already bitten the bullet and taken your unlocked iPhone down that scariest of paths, the 1.1.1 update, we’re here to sort out a bit of the hearsay from the actual and fairly inconvenient truth.[...] Thanks to lisapham for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

CIAVT: It pushes to iTunes, but you still actually have to click the “Update” button. It doesn’t auto-install.

slipdisc2: Apple won’t be “pushing” the update on you. You sure about that?

telemart73: Here’s what the Geniuses are doing to determine if you “hacked your phone”, they tap information from the “Incorrect SIM” window and compare the IMEI number to the one on the back of the iphone. If they don’t match, they know the phone was “unlocked”.

I know this because I experienced it. I attempted to unlock my phone for TMobile before giving up and just signing up with ATT. Now the phone is bricked and unreturnable. The genius was understanding and explained to me what was going on but went on to say that he can’t replace it because the IMEI numbers don’t match.

Anyone know whether a hack is in the works to allow updating the IMEI to match what is on the back of the iphone?

ec92009: On a positive note 1.1.1 seems to have fixed a bug in safari, a bug that prevented me from viewing long pages on digg.com.
Small consolation for my lost 3rd party apps :(

ibone: I have no reason to update i could give two shits about doubletap and itunes over wifi.

I would not want my iphone if i couldnt get the apps, ringtones, themes. And I have AT&T already.

Ajaxpeapod: So while I was trying to get my new iBrick serviced at the apple store on 5th ave today (arguing, albeit as politely as possible with the store manager) some apple fanboy walks in to BUY another iPhone. Because he bricked his. Hmmmm…. Apple over charges everyone by $200, then gives us all a $100 “rebate”. Kills a chunk of early adopter phones, now we need to use our $100 “rebates” on a NEW phone. This is fucking insanity.

Avian00: Dugg for including Wired’s diagram.

GREEDOnvrFIRED: I loved my iPhone before i added apps. I loved it ALOT after I added apps. I updated and lost the apps. Now I just love my iPhone again. boo hoo.

diggmediggyou: I don’t think that i will own a iPhone because i just don’t like the PDA style model phone. For a person who like PDA phone, this one is best for them.
Frankly, communicator always my first choice.

third_eye: So does it fuck up installer.app or doesn’t it?

largobargo: Fuck apple.

tetro: To be fair, there were multiple warnings from Apple that the next update would brick unlocked phones. It’s common sense to interpret that as avoid the next update if you want to use your unlocked phone.

Waredgo: I tell you….I love the way that has turned out.
For so long have “hackers” coded their way around DRM, firmware and other “security measures” I too am guilty of doing so, and every time I try it I know that I do so with the knowledge that it either may not work or worse yet I could “brick” the device that I am trying to thwart.
It was only a matter of time before a real “mainstream” hack like the one used on the iPhone came about and ended up backfiring. Though I sincerely hope that the “hackers”find a way to fight back and re-unloack the iPhone, I find this turn of events extremely entertaining and admitedly comical in its irony.

euphemizeme: Bu..bu..but Jesus Phone?
I have a flip phone that retails for $110 (free with 1 year plan) and makes telephone calls with any carrier I choose. I win.

BBCmafia: Stay away from the evil itunes. We need a replacement to itunes that is not trying to sell you crap all the time. I do not let my itunes on the net, thanks to kerio firewall. No thanks to Crapple just as bad as MS.

iPhone Re-Reviewed by Gizmodo (Verdict: Don’t Buy)

September 28, 2007

BLAM8Apple’s firmware wiped away the powerful apps that helped push the iPhone to greatness. With this, I’m going to have to move our recommendation from “Wait” to “Don’t Buy”. I’m done with this phone until the apps come back.[...] Thanks to BLAM8 for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

qpdb: They will have third party apps next wwdc, in 2008

bluenash: apple fan boys getting some harsh love from the object of their adoration.

haelios: Even Sony didn’t intentionally brick PSPs when people had hacked them to bits. Updates merely prevented unsigned apps from running. My verdict: fuck Apple.

diggmediggyou: I don’t about the software. For me, Symbian still the best.

opticwind: This is crap. You can’t change the rating because it can’t be illegally cracked now. Unless the reason it was on “Wait” was BECAUSE of the ability to unlock, this is just a swipe at Apple.

LGgeek: So let’s say I buy an IBM laptop (not really) and install Microsoft something on it and IBM has a update to the firmware for say the fan speed and because I have non IBM software installed it’s OK for IBM to make the laptop useless. Hum where are the tobacco lawyers when you need them. I think someone needs too investigate the relationship between Apple and AT&T.

AndrewMeyer: DON’T RE-REVIEW ME BRO… DON’T RE-REVIEW ME!

cipher64: Sooner or later, like I said before, Apple fanboys will have to realise their beloved brand is just another big corp. heartbreaking but truth. So, either just love it the way it is or you are in for a heartbreak.

jmandawg: Apple is becoming worse than MS, you apple fanboys wait and see. Buy up all their stuff, and then they screw you over, it’s just a matter of time. The bigger they get the worse they get. Look at the freaking ipod battery replacement service?? Linux is the only thing that hasn’t let me down yet.

Atomic1fire: I seriously think that openmoko could find a market
if the creators make third party applications easy and painless
and know what people want out of a phone

iphoneguy2: Regardless – in Canada there is a huge market for unlocked iPhones. Got one you want to dump?? http://www.iphonecanada.net

BobCock: how will kevin defend this on diggnation?

ramsinks.com: O, Gizmodo said so..
eh, 98% of population doesn’t know what a Gizmodo is.

3210: Apple made a stupid move when they decided to harass customers by bricking their iPhones. As the post states, you bought the phone, you are not simply renting it; therefore you should be able to install third party applications as well as be able to choose your own mobile carrier.

90 Days Later: AT&T refuses iPhone Subsidy Unlock

September 28, 2007

SillyMammaEveryone who has waited for the 90-days for iPhone subsidy unlocks can stop wondering. There are none. AT&T’s exclusive agreement with Apple means no subsidy unlock codes. AT&T is offering disposable cell phone unlocks instead and recommends you take one with you on your international trip.[...] Thanks to SillyMamma for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

gailwin: FUCKING ILLEGAL!
It was made a law that carriers and manufacturers MUST provide customers with unlocking information, since the customer OWNS the phone

SuperSunny: Lawsuit or didn’t happen

barryh777: F*** Microsoft! No, wait—

ejames8124: The AT&T contract indicates that a penalty exists if you cancel the contract prior to the two year contracts expiration. Has anyone looked into whether AT&T would be required to unlock the phone if you paid them the cancellation fee? It seems to me that if I was willing (and I’m not at the moment) to cancel my AT&T account and pay the penalty that AT&T (or Apple) would have to unlock my phone since the phone is not subsidized and would now belong to me; the contract would have been fulfilled wouldn’t it? Maybe the fee would be the remainder of the two year contracts payments which would make it to expensive for anyone to cancel at least until you were within a few months of the end of contract.

stupidpoo: Sorry, I have to ask, who is the big bad monopoly? AT&T or Apple iPhone?

nzezelj89: If i want to invest into a $400+ phone from Apple AND have a contract with AT&T for 2 years, i MUST buy another UNLOCKABLE phone to use with other GSM carriers companies……yea, fuck this, I’m sticking with T-Mobile

3210: The iPhone should definitely be able to be unlocked but, if AT&T can get away with not allowing people to unlock it, they will continue to do so.

richardiscool: They have to unlock them in the EU.

weebit: They will change their tune when they lose their customers to better phone deals. They are already scared or they would not be fighting for those new phone lines so bad. People are finding out that iphone might be cool. but the coolness wears off after a while. Especially after the bills start coming in.

ericjbolt: coincidence between this and the 1.1.1 update? Is apple enforcing at&t’s users to stay locked in with their service as part of a reciprocal business agreement? Would make for a great wired article! Hhem.

mal1964: Apple pushed this part of the agreement, for sales in the UK. att will unlock any other phone but not the iphone.

amacinnis: Having worked for AT&T, I feel I should say something. AT&T aren’t the ones denying your subsidy unlock code. When the customer asks for a SUC, we simply fill out a form with the IMEI, click “Submit”, and wait for an e-mail back from the manufacturer.

That’s right, Apple is denying the SUC for these phones, not AT&T. AT&T merely provides the service, it’s up to the manufacturer to decide when, or if, a SUC gets released.

objectcode: you want to keep digging me down? i digg down 5 others for every digg down i get. bring it

DalamarS: Phones sold in the US are married to carriers. The iPhone is no different to any other phone sold by a provider in the US of A. They have it right in Europe where you buy the phone and then find the “wire” to carry your signal. Until the entire model of US cell carriers (and for that matter telecom companies) changes to that of your local electricity provider you will always risk being dropped by them when you swim against the flow.

Flowpoke: Yea, but the –interface–, it’s interface is next gen. I see it as a PDA that finally has decent phone support – not the other way around.

After 90 day deadline, can you get iPhone unlocked by AT&T?

September 28, 2007

MikeTRoseYou’ve been a customer in good standing for 3 months. You’re heading out of the country. You want a subsidy unlock so you can use your iPhone on an overseas GSM network. You call AT&T with this eminently reasonable request… guess what happens next.[...] Thanks to MikeTRose for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

diggmediggyou: But the way, you always can get the unlock from the internet. So convenience, why worry about?.

LogicAJV: For all those that think we, against monopolies, are babies, we are not what you think we are. What if someone buys, all the gas up and it becomes $9 a gallon, because someone has a monopoly on it. We all would be screwed. We had this happen already once in the US. That’s why we have anti-monopoly laws in the first place. Anytime someone makes a pack with another company it starts violating monopoly laws. It happened when oil companies split the US in districts and had no competition in their district. This is exactly what Apple did with AT&T, and its 3rd party programs. These are monopolies, and they are extremely bad for consumers. What if every company out there decided to do what Apple did. We all would be priced out of everything. Its already happening with the banking industry/credit cards. Banks aren’t competing anymore, they are using what the next guy did to figure out the prices.

Its a fact, it nearly impossible for mass amounts of people to change a system without help. Why do you think are government is so bad? Too many people have to agree on something, and have to little power if they can’t agree 80% of the time. That’s why divide and conquer works so well.

ZackS: I was going to buy an iPhone after the price drop but did not because of this nonsense. Am I allowed to complain? I voted with my wallet, but that doesn’t make me happy. I wanted a damn iPhone and I’m going to complain until I get one that doesn’t have locks on all the doors.

sonicularulus: In my opinion, you all hate apple/att for locking the iPhone, but really…this is the american cellphone market where a lot of cellphones are tied to a cellphone provider. When purchasing the iPhone, you bought it knowing you would have to use ATT with it, and if you didnt, then sorry to say, you’re an idiot. There’s no reason for all of you to whine over the lock since you all knew it was existent and with apple having control with software updates, apple controls what kind of things you can do with your iPhone. With any software modification you come out with, apple will always come back at you with a way to counter-act it.

jaewon223: Here’s the simplest solution! Just dont use iphone or AT&T. Why support companies that treat you poorly?

tbechtx: what a bunch of whiny babies! If you don’t want AT&T as a carrier don’t buy an iPhone. I am so sick of this stupid subject getting so much publicity. You purchased the iPhone under the pretext that you would use AT&T as the carrier. Nobody twisted your arm to buy the phone. Grow up!

rodzilla: I discovered a cute thing with the iPhone today since the 1.1.1 update, When I originally got my phone about 3 weeks ago, I was bummed to find that the phone would not play .wav files from email attachments (vonage emails you your voicemail) but I figured oh well .wav isn’t really a Mac file format, so I moved on. Now with 1.1.1 I noticed these .wav file attachments now actually have a Quicktime looking icon associated with it instead just a white square.. So I figured SWEET the iphone now knows what a wav file is, but no, it tries to open the music player ipod app thing but then gives an error that it cant play the movie file.I find it quite odd that someone at apple went through the trouble to associate the .wav file with the ipod application, but still cant play them… just thought it was funny and felt the need to share. not complaining though as I have decided to reactivate my blackberry and sell this toy.

bi0metric: Just sent in my complaint :) Fuckin ATT bastards

gregrich: If you don’t like the iPhone don’t buy it. Its not like its a surprise what Apple is doing. Anyone who has the desire to hack / unlock knows how Apple does business so this should be of no surprise to you. If you don’t like it get a Nokia or any one of the open Linux phones that are popping up. Just don’t come here and complain that Apple is doing exactly what they have always done. That being said I would like to see the ability to unlock the iPhone from Apple or AT&T and that Apple release an API (not a web 2.0 but a real API) for the iPhone. I would also like to see the RIAA get their greedy slimy hands off my phone and let me do what I am legally entitled to do with MY legally purchased music. I actually can see Apple releasing an API so third parties have the ability to write applications for the iPhone; I also see some type of unlock being forced on AT&T / Apple just because of law suites. As for the RIAA treating us like thieves and making it like its some privilege to listen to music that we should grateful for, bending over and saying thank you every time you want to do anything with your legally purchased music; I don’t see that changing at all.

Yellow2k7: Too bad for you guys, when the phone is released in the UK, we can unlock the phone ourselves or ask the network, in this case o2, to do it for us. This is due to the laws in the UK and has been the case for many years, usually the networks will charge you a small fee (£20-30) but it is entirely legal to do it yourself.

By the way, if a later firmware update locks the phone again, the network will face a pretty hefty fine.

Cyber_Akuma: “guess what happens next”

Considering Apple’s recent actions, I am pretty sure I can guess…

SirZRX: hi guys, i have my own opinion, sorry for my grammar i hope to make my point clear:
im from mexico and i went to the us 2 weeks ago and bought an iPhone , i went to the apple store picked the phone, then i went to the hotel, unbox the phone, turn the phone on, unlocked and thats its. in the whole process i didn’t sing any paper o clicked “i agree”, why is not legally to do what i want to my phone?… in some software u have to agree to the disclaimer, before the installation proceeds , even in World of Warcraft u have to agree. i am paying 400usd and i think that i am paying for the software and the hardware, all the chips inside are mine now and about the software i am buying the software too. Just imagine GM bitching because u installed new wheels and a new system on ur brand new.

rubikon: ..he fixes the cable?

FLLawLibrarian: Let’s unleash the lawyers…

springo: After 1 year nobody will give a sh*t about iPhone, because iPhone Gen2 will be out. Guess what? It will be using an exclusive network too.

Apple, Jobs, AT&T sued over iPhone price cut, rebates

September 28, 2007

lnfiniteLoopIt was bound to happen: Apple Inc., along with its chief executive and exclusive U.S. iPhone wireless partner AT&T, have been hit with a new lawsuit from a disgruntled customer who charges the trio with a variety of offenses stemming from the recent iPhone price cut. She’s seeking damages in the amount of $1 million, punitive damages in the amount[...] Thanks to lnfiniteLoop for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

LeeSoong: LOL !

‘Waa Waa – you lowered the price on your product – Gimmy $1 Million Dollars!!!”

I guess Walmart is in trouble – as well as every other store that cuts prices to push slow moving merchandise.

I wonder what Apple did with all the non-selling 4 GB iPhones ?

Onimua: Yes, because the point of Apple selling iPhones is for YOU, the consumer, to make a profit. Of course! How could anyone NOT see that? How could Apple mess up resellers like that?

Sheesh people, price drops on products drop all the time. Sure it sucks if you buy something and sometimes even the next day the price drops, but that’s the way things work. I don’t even see how a couple of hundred dollars is even worth fighting for in court, especially when taking on a company like Apple.

Enlightenment: Enlightenment gives out another “Dumb Ass” award to these people!!!

chorne: Yet another sue-happy tool.

nakeek: Great to know who files
these type of suits..(derogatory)

saggygrandma: she must have sand in her vagina

campo: this chick is retarded

gosurf80: I would like to sue Ms. Li for wasting my tax dollars through misuse of an important government resource.

optophobia: ONLY IN AMERICA.

Enough said…………..

pavanb500: Let’s end this already… she should just quit whining since by pouring out the $599, she basically said “Apple, love you long time” for at least 2 years.

conkers209: Ok first of all I’m half and half on this. On the one hand, yes, it’s stupid to sue because of a price drop. And two, she is also suing because she claims that people are forced to sign a 2 year contract to use the iPhone. Now if this lawsuit can make the contract better than 2 years and paying full price for the phone, then maybe she has something there but all this will get thrown out, so it doesn’t matter. At lease Apple did something to ease people with the price cut because companies mostly doesn’t give a damn with you after you buy something from them.

Archcoder: Would they be happy if Apple raised the price…?

frazw: “Ow I tripped on the pavement and I’m a little embarrassed. This can’t be my fault. I’ll sue.”
“Ow I ordered Hot Chocolate and it was hot, I wasn’t expecting that. I’m a little stupid. I’ll sue.”
“Oh no I just did something really embarrassing but if it were someone elses fault… I’ll draw more attention to myself and sue.”
“Hey I just bought a phone and later on the price dropped just like every other piece of technology and because I’ve been annoying all of my workmates by showing off, they all laughed at me. Now I’m embarrassed, I’ll sue.”

Personal responsibility folks! Since when has a company NOT lowered their price after initial release?

HerbSolo: Well – i agree – a 200$ pricedrop (or better: a starting price 200$ too high) isn’t exactly a nice way of saying thank you to all their fans waiting in line for hours, just to be one of the first to get an iphone. – But suing them? – C’mon.

QuickeningYak: Well, look at that. Yet another reason why smug-ass Apple is a customer-exploiting shit of a company. Thank god all that dimwit metrosexual marketing suckered enough hipster-trendy dimwits into buying their worthless, dopey, overpriced crap… again. Otherwise, no one in the entire world would give a shit.

Apple. Worthless. Buried.

Jaman publishes “unsupported” AppleTV hack

September 28, 2007

mrspinBack in July, Jaman, which sells high definition movie downloads, announced that it was on the verge of releasing the first commercial plug-in for the AppleTV. That day has finally arrived, albeit with a pretty heavy caveat: Jaman won’t be officially supporting the “hack”.[...] Thanks to mrspin for providing this nice story on Digg.
