iPod Touch Runs Same Applications as iPhone

mklopezYou may be asking yourself where is Mail, Weather, Google Maps or Stocks in the new iPod touch. The answer: they are coming, but probably not from Apple. The iPod runs Mac OS X like the iPhone does and we have got unofficial word from inside Apple that it runs exactly the same applications. The exact quote: “they use the same damn binaries.”[…] Thanks to mklopez for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

JerodSlay: The more ultra mobile devices (smaller than laptop) that support wifi that come out and get into users pockets, the more businesses and cities will be installing hotspots. Just a few months, mayyyyybeeee years, before it’s practically everywhere..

I’m going to buy an iPod touch @ $400, and cancel my att unlimited data plan for my Blackjack ($39.95/mo). It will pay for itself in just 10 months, plus I’ll have a cool iPod.

catspot: I got one word for you…chumby

NoveltyCrosses: This might be a stupid question but is the ipod touch already out or is it going to be released soon?

robmcw: on a somewhat related topic…

my mom is looking for a new PDA but… doesn’t want a phone.

other than this what’s the best bet?

ChrisXPPro: O M F G! NO WAY! They Are The EXACT Same Thing! One Has a Phone! One Doesnt!

modulus5: Sure, the iPod touch is cool…in the same way as the iPhone is cool. That is to say, a cool device that is NOT an iPod. I was hoping that I could actually replace my iPod with the touch, but alas, I cannot. So what use is it as an iPod? I still think until it has at least 40 gigs, it’s rubbish.

thisguy47: Good news for http://ipodexe.com

amnesia888: the archos 605 is much better than this ipod touch

Tobark: Needs…..more…..space!!!

rude0197: Many of the quick web apps run on AT&T’s Edge network when you’re not on WiFi. The reality of the WiFi enable world is very different than the utopia that Job’s like to present.
The iTouch is a great step up for an iPod user but may feel like a big step down for an iPhone user.

UponFirstListen: If the Touch and iPhone are running Mac OS, is there anyway to get FLAC/Ogg/etc support on it?

RodeoRobot: A good eBook reader would be great on the Touch

kidcodea: macfanboys are like the plague. im glad jobs is overchargin them.

72Devilz: Wrong thread but via apple through Giz.

“Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week. Stay tuned.”

Only wish you did this yesterday Steve, my stock would be worth more today. You did the right thing, and you seem less of an Ass today as you did yesterday.
