iPhone Dev Team announces free GUI iPhone Unlock Tool

SillyMammaThe iPhone Dev Team has released a simple-to-use GUI tool that allows you to unlock your iPhone for use with any SIM. The tool, which is based on their previous command-line work, provides one-touch speedy unlocking. This is a big improvement on the first generation release. It no longer requires you to use special files or to dump nor data.[…] Thanks to SillyMamma for providing this nice story on Digg.

What other users say about this:

pengas: This GUI version sucks a**..
Not only it didn’t work but it bricked my iphone.. I’ve restored it and then jailbroke it to try this one..
Now my phone is not working all together (can’t make calls).

Kugo: This is a scumbag TUAW shill piece and SillyMamma is either lame, stupid, or in their employ. To have it their way, TUAW did all the work – not the dev team. Boycott TUAW starting today and link to the dev team directly.

darkfus: I guess the iPhone dev team doesn’t actually work for Apple?

MrViklund: AT&T and Apple have made an agreement and I think that people should respect that. But it seems like it’s a sport to hack every Apple product.

brettt: Apparently if you get the message that firmware flash worked, but unlock failed, you just need to restart the phone, and it should work. can anyone confirm this? I got the error, but have no other sim card to test with.

Wang: Be careful! Check out the hackint0sh.org forums before using this unlock….a lot of people had problems with it! Seems like the previously released free unlocks are more stable at this point.

soumenb: This does not seem to work for me. I am getting this error after running the program…
UNLOCK FAILURE
Couldn’t locate bytes to patch.
Worst thing, it does not recognize even my AT&T SIM after this process. I had to restore using iTunes. Anybody else faced this problem?

code2joy: So instead of being like Linux, now it’s like Windows

Disodium: SWEET! Now i just need to find $400

grant1080: The Dev Team rocks,
thanks for all your efforts!

pengas: Woot!
Thanx guys for a great job.

sakuraz: Okay, time to bring out my credit card.

Codee: Lucy, you’ve got some splaing to do.

telemart73: It’s not working for me. In the screen where it says, “tap ok to unlock”, the okay button does nothing.

sad face…
